What Is Out­place­ment Coaching?

Outplacement coaching (also known as OPC) is part of Finnish legislation and labour market policy. Its purpose is to mitigate the impact of redundancies and support individuals in finding new employment as quickly as possible.

It is intended for employees who have lost their job due to redundancy or financial and production-related reasons. The goal is to help individuals identify new career paths, secure employment or develop their skills.

Legal Framework for Out­place­ment Coaching

From the employer’s perspective, providing outplacement coaching for departing employees is a statutory obligation.

According to the Finnish Employment Contracts Act, an employer must offer training or coaching that supports re-employment if:

  1. the company employs at least 30 people, and
  2. the employee has worked for the employer for at least five consecutive years.

Value of the coaching or training:

  • at least the employee’s calculated monthly salary, OR
  • the workplace’s average monthly salary (whichever is higher).

Timing:

  • Coaching or training must be arranged within two months of the end of the notice period, unless there is a justified reason to postpone it.
  • the timing or estimated schedule must be communicated to the employee when the employment ends.

Out­place­ment Coaching for Individuals

The duration and intensity of the coaching vary based on individual needs, but all programmes share a personalised, goal-oriented approach. The coach acts as a sparring partner, helping the individual recognise strengths and create a practical plan for the future.

Individual coaching provides both practical tools and psychological support, making work-life transitions more manageable and opening new possibilities.

Out­place­ment Coaching for Groups

We also provide group coaching in transition situations. Group sessions offer a supportive and interactive process where participants in similar career transitions receive guidance, tools and peer support.

The coach facilitates a safe and motivating environment where everyone’s voice is heard. Group coaching combines professional guidance, shared learning and peer support, helping participants build a clear direction for the future.

HRS Advisors’ Out­place­ment Coaching

Coach

We select a coach who matches the individual’s needs. Typically, the individual meets their coach 3–5 times, depending on the outplacement package.

For group programmes, the coach meets the group onsite.

HRS Academy Learning Platform

Participants gain access to the HRS Academy digital programme, which can be completed independently alongside coaching.
